The Town Board of Sterling would like to wish everyone a a safe and happy holiday season. The red and white candy canes were once used year round to keep children quiet during long church services in Germany.  They became popular as a Christmas Candy in 1847 wheb a German-Swedish immigrant used them to decorate his tree.
